Maybe it’s the snow shimmering off the pines or the nip in the air, but it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Black Hills! This Thanksgiving put a new twist on old traditions by serving up wild game instead of the traditional turkey for your holiday meal. At the Powder House we specialize in quality steaks and wild game dishes. We are lucky enough to live in the beautiful Black Hills and with that, we have access to some wonderful wild game. From pheasant and quail to venison, elk and buffalo, South Dakota has a taste for the wild! We are a little partial to the beauty that we are lucky enough to live in around here. And, while we think the Black Hills are beautiful year round, we think they are especially lovely during this time of year. As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, we all recognize that fall is upon us. The pool is closed and the swing set sits idle as the kids are back in school as they continue their studies. With this change we all realize that our season is winding down here at the Powder House Lodge and Restaurant as well. This year, our final day of operations will be Saturday October 10, 2015.
You may have ‘herd’ that the Annual Buffalo Roundup is this week, September 24, 25 and 26, 2015 in Custer State Park. This yearly event is an amazing way to round out your South Dakota summer. Watch cowboys and cowgirls as they roundup and drive the 1,300 plus herd across the sweeping vistas of Custer State Park.

Did you know that the Powder House Lodge serves buffalo? We feature quality, regionally-raised buffalo steaks, burgers, stew, and even have some in our popular game kabobs. We occasionally feature a buffalo prime rib as well. If you like beef, you’re going to love buffalo.
We’d like to think there is no better way to spend a sunny South Dakota summer day than in the beautiful Black Hills. It’s not hard to enjoy the ride when driving through the curving roads and sweeping vistas.
This month travel through history with the 1880 Train with a ride on the Mother’s Day Express. Mothers and their guests can enjoy a bubbly beverage, a savory snacks and a sweet desert while they wind their way through the hills on the historic steam engine train.
