South Dakota wineries encourage you to drink it all in

 – By

With rolling hills, whispering pines, babbling brooks and views for miles, you’ll be tempted to take a moment and drink in all that the Black Hills has to offer. And that’s just what local wineries and breweries want you to do on your South Dakota vacation! The Powder House offers lodging near Mount Rushmore as well as many local breweries and wineries. While we feature several local wines on our menu, many of our guests enjoy touring the wineries, vineyards and of course the tasting rooms!

Prairie Berry Winery is located in Hill City, roughly a short 15 minutes drive from the Powder House. Known for its famous, “Red Ass,” Rhubarb wine, which pairs tart rhubarb with sweet raspberry for a finish that is as surprising as it its name, this fifth generation winery uses the fruit of South Dakota to create its wide range of varietals. Garnering names from South Dakota’s storied past, you’ll see bottles featuring labels with the likes of Calamity Jane, Poker Alice, Wild Bill and of course a cheeky nod to the days of the Gold Rush, a pear wine named, “Gold Digger.” From Cabernets to Chardonnays and everything in between, Prairie Berry is a must see stop for wine enthusiasts.

The next stop on your Black Hills Wine tour is just up the road from Prairie Berry and takes its name with a nod to nearby Mount Rushmore. Stone Faces Winery offers wines made from local fruits featuring regional names like, “Pasque,” “Rushmore Red,” and “Sturgis Merlot.” Stone Faces Winery is located in off of Hwy. 16 in Hill City.

Twisted Pine Winery is located on Main Street in Hill City and features a variety of South Dakota Made products. You will find a large selection of Dakota made wines, foods and gifts. Twisted Pine also offer gourmet food items including olive oils, balsamic vinegars, pistachios and unique gifts! Snacks, shopping and wine, what more could you ask for!

The last stop on your trip will take you Naked Winery also in Hill City. This new location features 60 microbrews with 22 on tap. In addition to their line of wines, Naked Winery also offer microbrews from Sick and Twisted brewery. The cozy atmosphere is great for spending a day with loved ones. Naked also offers a variety of gourmet snacks to accompany your wine and microbrews. Naked Winery is family friendly and offers outdoor seating, so that you can enjoy your craft beverage in the beauty of the Black Hills.
