Black Hills Holiday Happenings

Maybe it’s the snow shimmering off the pines or the nip in the air, but it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Black Hills! Although we are closed during the winter, the Powder House is looking especially cozy under its new white blanket of snow!  If you and yours will be spending the holidays in the Hills there is plenty to do and see! Be sure to check out these holiday attractions while visiting the Black Hills this Christmas.

Christmas at Storybook Island – Storybook Island is favorite pastime for many children who live and visit the Black Hills. But during the Month of December, the park’s displays come to life with Christmas Lights! Visit Cinderella’s enchanted pumpkin carriage, or Winnie the Pooh and friends. But you won’t want to miss a visit to Santa! Santa will be in the park through December 23rd! His reindeer will also be in the park, through the 20th. They Need to get back to the North Pole in time for Christmas! The park will be open each night from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, through the 23rd. The park will reopen December 26- the 31st. As Christmas music fills the air, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies from the snack bar while you stroll through the park. Cost is $2.00 per person.

Potter Family Christmas – Join the Potter Family at the Potter Family Theatre, 632 St. Joe, in Rapid City, as they celebrate the holidays with music! Singing, dancing and live music featuring the songs of Christmas, will surely out you in a festive mood! This talented family hosts a must see Christmas Musical event each year and it continues to grow in popularity. Show offerings on December 20, 21, 22, 23, 26 and 27th. Lights on the Ice Teen Night -December 18, 2015   5:00 pm - 9:00 pm - The ice rink at Main Street Square in Downtown Rapid City is transformed into a dance party for teens and young adults complete with lights and today’s top music hits.  For event details, visit www.mainstreetsquarerc.com.

Christmas at the Cathedral - December 20, 2015   7:30 pm - 9:00 pm – The Dakota Choral Union will present "Christmas at the Cathedral" on December 20, 2015 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 520 Cathedral Drive, Rapid City. The 100+ voiced chorus will perform music, which will include some very familiar tunes, that will brighten your celebration of Christ's birth. New Years Eve with the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra - December 31, 2015   7:30 pm - 7:30 pm - The Black Hills Symphony Orchestra celebrates New Year’s Eve with “Celtic New Year’s Eve: Hogmanay.” New Year’s Eve is celebrated around the world. The Scots have a long and rich heritage associated with this event – and have their own name for it, “Hogmanay.” Black Hills Symphony Orchestra celebrates New Year's Eve with a Celtic flair.
